We are using the same levels as you, have not seen the problem you describe.
I stopped using the base/GA-level of client 3.1.0.7 due to problems fixed in
the latest fixtest, so am not sure of the SP5 timing.  Try re-installing the
client (and use the latest fixtest, f2), pay close attention to any prompts
about over-writing DLLs;  alternatively, try re-installing SP5 --- either
approach could/should help.
