I'm still confused about the use of "pitdate" to do restores on the V3

I know that pitdate uses the no-query-restore protocol, and todate does not.
But is there any difference in the RESULTS you get with these 2 commands?

dsmc restore -pitdate=05/05/1999 c:\my\windows\directory\*
dsmc restore -todate=05/05/1999 c:\my\windows\directory\*

Enquiring, confused minds want to know.....
