Replies, of course, will vary quite a bit depending on your situation. (As you
can tell from the number of replies!) For the most part, I see using RLVs for
the database because it is totally random access and hence the file system
overhead will only get in the way. On AIX, I tend to like file systems because
then you can use the read-ahead buffers to (potentially dramatically) increase
performance when flushing to tape.

Hello everyone!
I have a question.
I'm using ADSM 3.1.2.0 on AIX 4.1.4.
Someone sugested using ADSM with raw locial volumes instead of
filesystems. Said that this would increase performance.
My question is: at what point do you decide to use raw logical volumes?
