Hi Leandro..
Unfortunately, from within AIX, tar or cpio can write to any tape in the
drive, as long as the drive is defined and available to AIX. When you have
the tape drive defined to ADSM, AIX cannot use it directly. To my
knowledge, there are no facilities for checking any soft labels on tapes
prior to tar or cpio writing to them. If you are using a library supported
by the ATAPE driver, you could possibly write a wrapper around the commands
that utilizes the tapeutil program to check the barcode label on the tape.
This still wouldn't check to see if there was ADSM data on the tape, but you
could at least do some level of sanity checking.
