To answer your question:>
When I use dsmadmc without any further parameters it connects via shared
memory. Why? How does dsmadmc get the default server?

dsmadmc -servername=localSrv

This will force the dsmadmc executable to read the parameters after
servername localSrv in your dsm.sys file

The admin client in AIX defaults to the Shared Memory protocol, when a
client and server are on the same box.

You may be using the same dsm.sys, dsm.opt files for backup and admin
clients...

Subject: Default Server for dsmadmc?

Hi,
I have the following statements in /usr/lpp/adsm/dsm.sys:
Defaultserver localSrv
Migrateserver HSM_SERVER

The difference between both servers is that the first uses TCP/IP, the
second shared memory.
When I use dsmadmc without any further parameters it connects via shared
memory. Why? How does dsmadmc get the default server?
I have AIX 4.2.1 and client 3.1.20.5.
Best regards
Gerhard
