Rick,
Yes, I've even gone to the extent of adding different versions
of the NWUSER line:

NWUSER server1\backupuser:password
NWUSER server1\.backupuser.ou.o:password
NWUSER treename\.backupuser.ou.o:password
NWUSER .ou.o\.backupuser:password

NWPWFILE YES

And none of these work.  However I have 3 other identical
servers set up that work fine.  I have not been able to identify
what is different.

        NWUS username:password
        in the dsm.opt file??
