Commit between these commands does NOT do what you want.  I tried it for
exactly this purpose last week and it ensured that the "backup db" command
was executed before the "backup volhistory" command but it did nothing to
check that the process generated by the "backup db" command was complete
(or even started for that matter!).

I like the sound of the ADMS console mode monitor with some extra smarts
built in.  I will investigate this approach.  Any hints or sample code (any
platform but ideally NT) would be appreciated.
