Item Subject: migrating ADSM from VM to AIX: machine 'costs'??
So far I'm sold on the SSA disk drives & controllers ('cause the
controllers are four, four, four, four scsi in one... 1 card = 2 loops
each loop = 2 ports all ports are bidirectional, operate concurrently,
run at the 20 MB/s, yada, yada, yada and these are the old ones, new
ssa cards support 96 drives per loop, 192 per card, multiple cards per
loop (for high availability), and on, and on, and on)
NUMBER ONE FACT is that I've had extreamly good performance from these
drives and very low, almost no, problems with them. Here locally ONLY
ON ADSM there are 12 drawers of 16-4.5GB drives, or 192 drives=864 GB
of dasd... this pretty much gets filled daily and sometimes twice
daily, then emptied... talk about abuse! Ok, I seem to recall 2 of
them (only two of the 192 drives) that have been replaced in the
     last.... 2 years-ish....

For TAPES... if you can cover the cost go 3494 w/ 3590's

     just my thoughts...
     later

          Dwight

We use:
        1/3 of 2 9672-R42 processors,
        4 3490 tape cartridge drives,
5 Gigs of staging disk and 10 Gigs of Database storage
? Gig for OS & support areas.

So we're thinking:

        R6K-SP with 2 processors,
15 Gig of ? disk drives
        4 ? tape transports
(capable of being put on a robot is a requirement)
(and for extra credit: what robot to use?)
