Peter,
We have only played with compression and never used it in production yet, but
in my experience, using 3590C and an estcap of 15G does the trick. I am not
sure whether estcap has a lot of importance, except for evaluating the ammount
of storage left in your storage pool. I certainly have tapes reporting usage of
20 GB, when the estcap that we used during tests was set at 15G.
Hope this helps.

Hi All,
<=>I am running ADSM on AIX 4.1.4 and have just installed two 3590's. I am
currently acheiving a capacity of around 11 G per cart. I was expecting to be
able to compress a lot more data per cart than what I am getting.

<=>I have compression on in AIX and also ADSM. The option I used for for
defining the device class was format=drive. I am not mixing devices - all are
3590. Perhaps I should use format=3590C ?

<=>Am I doing something wrong ?
