Hello,

We are setting up ADSM for the first time to do backups of 5 AIX servers
with reasonably large storage requirements.

The hardware we have available on the ADSM server (RS6k-590) is as follows:
  - 2 x 3490E's (7 tape autochanger + 1 drive)
  - 1 x 3995 Model 163 (144 r/w optical cartridges + 4 drives)
  - approx 2-3 GB disk available for ADSM storage

We have purchase the Alphatronix Jukebox software which makes the Optical
library appear to the RISC as a very large SCSI disk. I have also been
told recently that ADSM can drive the Optical library directly, and I am
pretty sure that a combination of both approaches wouldn't be supported (or
even work).

My question is, given the above scenario, has anyone had any experiences
using some combination of the above hardware or something similar? What
are the trade-offs from a practical implementation point-of-view of using
the Optical library directly or pretending it's just a file system.

Any comments are greatly appreciated. Any responses mailed directly to me
will be summarized and posted.
