Hi Martha, Hans,

When you change a management class associated with a file, the
ADSM server does rebind the file to the new class and its
associated attributes. Therefore, Hans, you would never keep
your 12 monthly generations.

The mode = absolute is effective only for an incremental
backup. It has no effect on the processing for a selective
backup. The main difference between the behavior of these is
that the incremental will backup empty directories while the
selective will not. Also, because the ADSM administrator defines
the policy domains, control of the mode=absolute is there. The
selective command can be issued by the end user.

Another approach to the situation you and Hans are discussing is
to use two nodenames for the client. One could be used for the
"full" backups (to tape or wherever) and the other for "incrementals".
