Windows client backup schedule failed

I have a windows client that the backup schedule fails every single day.A manual backup works.What is it that I need to check and/or add in the dsm.sys in order to ensure that the schedule works.Thanks.

Has it ever worked and just started not working? Or has it NEVER worked? Post your dsm.sys.

Should it not read "dsm.opt" file since the client in question is Windows?

Post you dsmerror.log it will help along with the dsm.sys.

the failed files listed here are normal, MS recommand to eclude them from backup

I think that since 5.3 TSM client propose you to do it by default....

and the faillure, do you receive a RC=12 ?

Ben,
as per your post, it looks all log and .dat files are missed. Microsoft also recommended to exclude these files from backup.

And mostly you are receiving RC 12 at the end of backup report.

Recommended excludes are available to select during the BA Client setup.

did you associate the client to the schedule that you did in the tsm server? also did you start the client agent on the client?

Recommended includes do not include *.[lmn]df, which are extensions MS SQL Server normally uses. However, I think the SQL Server install somehow, somewhere adds mdf and ldf (though not ndf, I believe) to one of the lists with actual excludes. It might be in the Snapshot agent; it's not in the usual FilesNotToBackup registry key.

I have come across the list with exclude locations, it might be on this forum somewhere, but I can't find it right now.

If you have an issue with backups failing because of mdf and/or ldf files on a SQL Server system, exclude the database/log files and schedule a database dump in SQL Server, then backup the dumps. Or use the SQL TDP. Or both. You really don't want to backup <backup>.mdf; you want to backup a dump or the actual database (which you can do online).

Those are SQL files, u need to install TDP for SQL or use cold backup fo oracle database.
