Hi,

I'm going to perform a complete system recovery with asr on a test-server i built up. The test server (Windows 2003 Server) has Service Pack 2 installed, but we don't have any Win2k3 install cds that include that servicepack - do I need a slipstream copy of the install cd or should the recovery work with any cd (the only one we got is a version without any service pack at all)?
In all those white papers that explain complete system recovery with ASR this issue is never mentioned. only that you need a slipstream copy for winXP.
thanks!

best regards

integrate sp2

integrate sp2 into your existing version

copy the contents of your w2k3 cd into a temp map of your pc (ex. c:\w2k3\)

download sp2 in a temp folder (ex. c:\sp2\)

open a command box, and cd to c:\sp2 (cd \sp2)

type:

sp_file.exe /integrate:c:\w2k3\ en pres enter (sp_file.exe is the sp you downloaded)

sp is now intergrated

Download the Microsoft Corpotation.img from the internet. (if you can't find it, post a message)

Use Nero to write the cd: (is different in different versions)

choose to make a boot cd
source of boot image data --> use the microsoft coorporation.img file
enable the expert settings en select:
kind of emulation: no emulation
numer of loaded sectores: 4
load segment of sectors: 07c0

select New and navigate to c:\w2k3\
and burn it

greetings,

Koen

well thanks for your tutorial, maybe I'll need it someday.
but I just ran the complete system recovery of my Win2k3 sp2 system with a windows 2003 basic edition CD - everything worked out fine ;)

and most of all ...

keep your fingers crossed when recovering from ASR, because you will have to rely on Microsoft Windows as soon as it will ask you to insert diskette.

cheers
max
