Our IT organization has the following setup terms of TSM client levels

Environment
Exhange 2007
Windows 2008

BA Client 6.2.1
TDP for Exchange 6.1.2
FlashCopy Manager 2.2 -- we do not have this component installed.
Copy Services Exchange VSS Integration Module 5.5.1

TSM server 5.5

Questions
Does TSM Flashcopy Manager need to be installed for TDP Exchange backups if running from the passive node or can will TSM for Advanced Copy Services be sufficient?

Is TSM FlashCopy Manager the same as TSM for Advanced Copy Services.
I thought Flash manager was for Flash copies like a DASD Subsystem would do
and Advanced copy services is like an Add-In for VSS services running on Windows.

Is TSM for Advanced Copy Services just a license file or is it an actual product that needs to be downloaded and installed?

Thanks for your help

You are correct. So, are you planning to keep a VSS copy local for quick restores, or do you plan to off=load the backup to another machine? Let us know how it works out.

If you want to do mailbox and/or item level restores, you also need the Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects installed.

flashcopy manager can be used instead of copy services for exchange, for VSS backups and instatnt restores. They are not the same, FlashCopy is bigger and with other features.
When you do VSS backup with one of those two modules, you can choose what destination for backup to use: Local, TSM server or both.
Without one of those two, and with BA Client 6.2.1 and TSM for mail client, you still can do VSS backup, but only to TSM server as destination, which means you do not have "instant restore" option.

And yes, you need a bit of code to download for copy services, it is not only a liense.
