Hi,
I tried moving data from one tape to another within same library. Its giving the following error message
"ANR2401E MOVE DATA:Volume 003b0013 is not defined in a storage pool.
ANS8001I Return Code 11"

When i queried the library using 'q libvol' command ,its showing all the tapes.
While Configuration I have labelled the tapes.
Could anyone help me in solving this issue if you faced similar to this before.

Thanks,
Karpagam

What is the exact command you are using? Also, what is the output from:
q libvol {libr} 003b0013
q vol 003b0013

-Aaron

you can also look for your tape at the result of "q volhist".

Hi Steven,
The status of the tape is private.

Thanks

Aaron asked what "q vol 003b0013" showed. That is most likely going to answer your question.

Having the same issue here

hi,
I'm having the same problem on my tape- 989AJV.
the output for the q vol 989AJV is:
no match found using this criteria.
however, when I use q libvol- the tape shows up as private and has no 'Last Use' colum (TSM) like the rest of the tapes.
when I type the command q vol the tape 989AJV is not showing up either.
I think I should link it to the storage pool- but I have no idea of the proper command for it.
can anyone help ?
thanks!

tsm>q volhist type=dbb
check if the volume was used by TSMDB backup.

tsm>q volume <volname>
will say whether the volume is part of any stgpool.

Vol and libvol are NOT the same thing. You can have a libvol that is not a member of any storage pools and thus not a volume anywhere. It looks like you may have had a read error when TSM went to mount that tape and use it. If so, it marks the tape private so that no other operations will try to use the tape. After you confirm that is isn't being used for any other operation (backup set, etc) then I would check it out of the library without removing it from the library, then re-label the tape and check it in as scratch. Watch it for a while to make sure it doesn't enter that state again and if it does, replace the tape.

Hi all,

I have three tapes that are showing on the vault retrieve list, but are phsyically in the library. They return no matches using the 'q vol' command, but when I do 'q volhist type=dbb' as recommended above they are all in that list.

What should I do with the tapes now? Not sure why TSM thinks they're offsite when they're not, and I can't change them because TSM says they're not in a storage pool.

Sorry if this is a daft q, but i'm fairly new to TSM, course in April!

DDB = Database backup. Those volumes will not show up in a "q vol" and will only show up in the volhist and in "q drmedia"

Since the volumes are already in the vaultretrieve status, you can tell TSM to logically move them back onsite to be reused by using the "move drmedia" command. Once TSM thinks they've been recalled from offsite storage they will become scratch and can be reused.

Hi Aaron, and thanks.

Like so?

move drmedia A00532L1 wherestate=vaultretrieve tostate=ONSITERETRIEVE

Have issued above (or below, depending on how you like your threads!) command, and all is well, volumes are now scratch.

Thanks very much for your help.

tape stuck in the library

Hi,

I am facing the same issue. The tape volume seems stuck inside. I want to take it to IO slots.I visited this thread and followed the steps. The tape is inside the tape library and when I am doing "q libvol" it is not showing the volume. but when I did

q drmedia

It gave some what relief and shows me the media details.

media was in mountable state, then I did:

move drmedia * wherestate=mountable tostate=courier

it changed the state only but did not eject the tape...

please help me..

I know this is a little late, but for others experincing this problem issue the following command:

UPDATE LIBVOLUME (libraryname) (volume) stat=scr

Cheers,
Chris.
