TSM for Mail - VSS Snapshot - sizing

We are in the process of implementing TSM for Mail to backup or Exchange2010 environments. I am trying to understand the diskpool and "tape" capacities that we will need to support this environment. So my question is when the TSM for Mail client backs up the VSS Snapshot, does this pickup the full LUN or does it strip out the "white space"?

By SNAPSHOT - I understood it to be just picking up the LUN but I may be wrong.
