Here is the Env: (or at least used to be)

TSM server (used to be running on a Windows 2000 server) on Version 4.2.

The server had been decommissioned but now the management needs to recover the machine using tapes on an identical h/w.

We do have a database tape and Primary storage pool tapes. (there were no copy pool tapes made only primary stg pool tapes).

We have installed the windows operating system from the base CD and not sure how to proceed from here to recover the db and the stg pool.

There is no soft copy or hard copy of the volhistory file.

We do have the media for TSM 5.1

Can someone please help in recovering the tsm server from the database backup.

Thanks a lot for your help

IF you don't know which is your TSM database backup tape, you can pretty much stop right there.

If you know, then I would install TSM to the same version that the DB Backup is from and configure TSM to be able to read the tapes (define the devclass, dbvols, logvols, etc) Once you have the tape and the devclass setup, perform a TSM db restore:

dsmserv restore db vol=(tape number) commit=yes

Asuming everything is setup correctly, your database should come back and everything is good to go.
