Hi All,

I am going for TSM Certification Exam . I have some doubts on answers for the following question so can any one of you help me to give the correct answers for the below questions.

Your help could be highly appreciated.

1). Where one can check latest revisions available for TSM BA client?

Answer :-

2). You have one library attached to AIX based TSM Server. One Solaris box with 60 GB oracle data is at remote location. You plan to install TSM server at remote location, what additional resources will be required ?

Answer :-

3). You are migrating a TSM installation from existing hardware to a new hardware, how will you get TSM database onto new hardware ?

Answer :-

4). You want to make some changes in backup functionality at customer site, and do not want to disturb existing setup, so you decide to make change on one test node initially and observe the changes for few days, before implementing change on all nodes. How can you implement this for test node?

Answer :-

5). A customer is taking incremental backup daily, and full backup at end of each month and at year end, Due to legal requirement, customer wants to store data for 7 years, Which activity should be chosen to provide minimal load on network ?

Answer :-

6). A site has 10 clients and a backup window of 8 hrs, Schedule duration is 1

hour with randomization set to 50 %, Each client backup takes 2 hour, 2 client are not backed up during backup window. What is the way to solve this ?

Answer :-

7). Where you can find the network usage statistics, of a backup/restore session?

Answer :-

. How to connect a SCSI library to SAN.

Answer :-

9). Where can we find whether the client backed up through (SAN VS LAN).

Answer :-

10). A node is unable to retain its password so that the TSM scheduler can run.what should you check ? also after making sure that the statement is in the dsm.opt .where might you look for a quick answer?

Answer :-

11). When the administrator issues a Q SESSION the out shows node KRONOS has been in a wait state for 55 minutes what is cause this long wait time?

Answer :-

Thanks in advance

Hi,

problem with TSM certification exam is (IMHO) that some questions are a bit tricky - you do not get as much info as you need or you know the best answer but it is not in the answer list ...

1) TSM website

2) a bit complicated one ... you need: TSM server, TDP for Databases (to do Oracle online backup) ... and MAYBE a new library - you can define library sharing between servers, but transfering 60GB+ daily from remote location calls for new robot there - correst me anybody, if I am wrong

3) Export/Import DB (backup/restore DB can be used if the OS platform is the same)

4) define new policy domain for this node

5) if you want to minimize network load, use Instant Archives (backupsets) - builds an archive from files already backed up

6) that is the problem with the TSM question ... WHY these 2 backups did not run? a quick look into activity log would be more than helpfull

a) every node needs 2 hours, so the last schedule must not be started later than 6th hour of he backup window (beware efect of randomization parameter)

b) you do not have maxsession parameter in the dsm.opt high enough, so you cannot run more simultaneous backups - modify this parameter or reduce schedule window and/or randomization (do not forget it is STARTUP window)

c) you do not have enough mountpoints to do all the backups in time, so considering using DISKPOOL or enlarging the backup window could help

d) .... whatever ...

7) server activity log

 see admin guide (for AIX it is page 79), basically you need: server-to-server communication, physically attach library to server (library manager), define library to library manager, define library to library client

9) not sure about this - (if it is set correctly to Lanfree and it goes not Lanfree, it should be in the dsmerror.log on the client, not sure about activity log on the server) - leaving this for others to answer :)

10) passwordaccess generate in dsm.opt

11) again .. which kind of WAIT? as far as I know - maybe waiting for free mountpoint, migration process freeing up pool space, network problems (session crash) etc.

Hope it is more helpfull than confusing ..

Hi All,

My guesses

1). Where one can check latest revisions available for TSM BA client?

Answer :- IBM TSM website or option which says ibm

2). You have one library attached to AIX based TSM Server. One Solaris box with 60 GB oracle data is at remote location. You plan to install TSM server at remote location, what additional resources will be required ?

Answer :- many like tdpo in solaris box, communication b/w aix tsm server and new tsm server (library manger and library client), connectivity b/w solarix box and TSM server via lan/lan-free etc.

3). You are migrating a TSM installation from existing hardware to a new hardware, how will you get TSM database onto new hardware ?

Answer :- creating db volumes and restoring the database or export server.

4). You want to make some changes in backup functionality at customer site, and do not want to disturb existing setup, so you decide to make change on one test node initially and observe the changes for few days, before implementing change on all nodes. How can you implement this for test node?

Answer :- with new policy domain and register the test node in policy domain.

5). A customer is taking incremental backup daily, and full backup at end of each month and at year end, Due to legal requirement, customer wants to store data for 7 years, Which activity should be chosen to provide minimal load on network ?

Answer :- backup set

6). A site has 10 clients and a backup window of 8 hrs, Schedule duration is 1

hour with randomization set to 50 %, Each client backup takes 2 hour, 2 client are not backed up during backup window. What is the way to solve this ?

Answer :- as he mentioned randomization in the question it might be the culprit so decreasing it will resolve the issue as randomization distributes the start of schedule based on load.

7). Where you can find the network usage statistics, of a backup/restore session?

Answer :- in activity log of TSM server and also schedlog of client for a completed schedule backup

. How to connect a SCSI library to SAN.

Answer :-

9). Where can we find whether the client backed up through (SAN VS LAN).

Answer :- in backup summary and also in actlog

10). A node is unable to retain its password so that the TSM scheduler can run.what should you check ? also after making sure that the statement is in the dsm.opt .where might you look for a quick answer?

Answer :- passwordaccess generate

11). When the administrator issues a Q SESSION the out shows node KRONOS has been in a wait state for 55 minutes what is cause this long wait time?

Answer :- q se f=d gives you better picture may be waiting for mount point or processing something etc
