I wonder if anyone can help me???

I am trying to do a backup of my Domain Controller which normally works fine using TSM, but about a week ago we had an upgrade on another machine and we had to turn everything off and since then the backup just will not work.

The message i keep getting in the Schedular is "09-12-2004 20:02:36 ANS1312E Server media mount not possible"......... In the monitor it says there are not enough mount points available. I have checked the tape drive and it is online, i have checked all the tape paths and they are all online. I have enough scratch tapes available.

Also in the monitor it is trying to do a "Space Reclamation" which keeps failing because there are not enough mount points available. I have queried processes, paths, drives etc... they all seem ok ......???????????

Please can anyone help me .......

Hey,

How many tape drives do you have? For each schedule you have you have the ability to determine the number of mount points for that schedule. The number of mount points in your schedule, should be equal to the number of tape drives that you have in your library. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Adam.....

I have only 1 tape drive..... and everything seems in order with the scheduler. This backup has been running fine with my current settings, the problem is it just keeps complaining about not having enough mount points available , since we turned our server and tape drives off and back on again.

I can check tapes in and out of TSM fine so the Tape Drive seems to be up and running....

This is really doing my head in, below is wot my TSM monitor says .......

Hope some of this makes sense...........

For reclaimation to run minimum two drives are required, no wonder it fails complaining about mount points.

How can i solve this then?? Can i stop reclamation running so my backup can run????...

We are going to be using some new software after christmas so i am not bothered about relamation just need it backing up until then......

Cheers.... ;)

you should set your reclaim percentage to 100% for that storagepool. This will disable automatic reclamation.

<TABLE BORDER=0 ALIGN=CENTER WIDTH=85%><TR><TD><font class="pn-sub">Code:</font><HR></TD></TR><TR><TD><FONT class="pn-sub"><PRE>upd stgp &lt;storagepoolname> recl=100 </PRE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE>

If you want to do reclamation with only one tape drive you will have to define an additional reclaim storage pool (on disk).

How do you define a 'reclamation' pool on disk? I want to know more about it. What are the settings required for it and how does a 'reclamation' pool differ from primary storage pool?

TIA.

Cheers 4 that, i have now updated the storage pool so we shall c wot happens on tonites backup......... :-o

The space reclamation has gone away.....

BUT....... Still no backup last night

This is wot i got in TSM Monitor.........

This is really frustrating  Anyone got any ideas ??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

looks like a problem with your tape-drive. I'd contact support and see if it works with an other one.

For more info on the error messages and TSM in general check: ADSM Reference list

btw: did you do this: "Refer to Appendix D in the 'Messages' manual

for recommended action. " --> might help to understand the exact nature of the error message... ;)
