TSM 5.2 client requirement

Hi we have a tsm server running at aix 4.3 and tsm version 5.1 and we have aix servers clients running aix 4.3 and oracle 8.1.7.



My question is that I know that tsm 5.2 will run only at aix 5L so we need to upgrade our tsm server to aix 5L, my concern is will we need to upgrade also our aix clients running aix 4.3 to aix 5l to support tsm 5.2?

The clients in general do not have to be upgraded. I have used a 3.x client with 5.1 and everything worked fine. To take advantage of new features you have to upgrade. Of course testing is needed to confirm that this is true in your environment.

LANfree clients must be upgraded.

I am currently running TSM server5.2.0 on AIX 5L but have 2 AIX 4.3.3 systems running on the 5.1.5 client. There is no need to upgrade your client unless your looking to do LANfree as stated by AndyRH.

Hum...in restore; is domagable that the client is not upgraded no ???

For example in Exchange config...or in restore system objects...for windows.

I prefer upgrade systemeticaly all clients on my environement...for best restore.

For a best restore whith RMAN...yes the upgrade is necessary !
