Hi, recently have tried using TBMR 6.3 to restore a server on a VM. After the initial backup we tried the restore. All seems to work but once we reboot the VM, only the grub console is displayed, and we are unable to boot from it.

Another question would be if the target restore machine has a different partition layout then the server, will TBMR automatically allocate and split partitions to match the server or it has to be done manually?

Thanks in advance.

Software like TBMR will be able to recover to a Virtual machine. TBMR will partition the recovery machines hard disks so that they matched the original layout (as closely as possible) before then recovering the system from your TSM backup. If you are only seeing the Grub boot prompt after a recovery, it sounds like something has gone wrong during the recovery. The best thing to do would be to rerun the recovery and before you exit the recovery console capture the Log Files using the TBMR main menu, and then send Cristie Software (CBMR at cristie.com) an email with the logs. They should be able to help out with any recovery issues.

I hope this helps you out :)
