RMAN performance for extremely large database ?

Hi everyone
I am going to deploy a new TDP for Oracle on a 45 TB database system .
Customer asked me if they can backup 45 TB database in 5 hour or less with TS 3500 ( 16 drives)
What should i look into for increasing RMAN performance ?

Currently on the old system , we use 8 RMAN channel and backup rate as 4,5 TB / hours
I've tried to allocate 16 RMAN channel but the backup rate doesn't increase as well.

Hope you can give me some advice.

Hi, that's a pretty complex issue - see following Oracle doc on RMAN perf tuning: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/rcmtunin.htm One quick hint would be to use aio, if possible (available on AIX, not sure about others) and make sure that back-end disk system is capable to deliver required IO.

Will report you the status . I am checking it .
We use 2 DS 8700 , i think it provided more than enough IO requirement compare to 1 TS 3200
