I have a small shop TSM setup. One drive, no tape library, 10 nodes. I haven't had to do this before, but I hope there is a way I can:

I need to access data on some of my old tapes that are scratch tapes, but labeled as destroyed so TSM won't ask for them. The data has been expired from the DB, but can I still get to it? Arcserve has a merge function that would be similar to what I'm trying to do.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. (been a Chiefs fan since the NOT SO glory days)

IF the data has been expired out of the TSM database, the only way I know of is to restore the TSM database to a point before the data was expired. Not a small task even for a small shop.

If the data have been expire from the TSM database.

To get the data, the TSM database would have to be restore to a point in time before the

data have expire.

There is a cavate with this. If the data is on a tape and the tape have been over written.

Restoring the TSM database would be useless since the data does not exist any more.

Since you mention that the tapes are marked 'destroyed.'

Before restoring the old TSM database, make a current backup of the TSM database.

That way you can restore the TSM database to the most current state.

Good Luck,

Sias
