Hi,

Am I right in thinking that if I have reclamation set at 60% , so long as its finishing in time its ok ? It used to be set at 90% by the company that installed it. Will me setting it to 60% free up more tapes ?

Yes, you will get more free tapes.

A Reclamation Threshold of 60% says the tape will be reclaimed if less than 40% of its space is in use.



It should be better to decrease Reclamation Threshold in steps if you don't want to run reclamation for days

You may need to step the percentage down to clear the emptiest tapes first, but either way will work.

We have a scheduled job that resets the percentage to 100 a few hours before the backups start so that reclamation will end before the backups start. This way reclamation can run longer and still not affect the backups. Some days it does not finish, other days it does, but reclamation is a task that will pickup the next day and it does not have to complete every time to protect my data.
