Hello

We are having problems of recovery with old tapes of backup, we have tapes dlt7000 and were done with Legato 7.1.2 and w2k (now we are in w2k3), and each that attempt to recover the online and media index it return always the following error:

c:\>scanner -v -i \\.\Tape0
scanner:\\.\Tape0: opened for reading
scanner:\\.\Tape0: rewinding
scanner: Reading the label...
scanner: Reading the label done
scanner: scanning dlt70000 tape esp3.015 on \\.\Tape0
scanner: volume id 2580583425 record size 65536
created 11/16/04 11:04:04 expires 11/16/06 11:04:04
scanner: adding dlt7000 tape esp3.015 to pool poolesp3
scanner: \\.\Tape0:rewinding
scanner: setting position from fn 0, rn 0 to fn 2, rn 0
scanner: \\.\Tape0:rewinding
scanner: \\.\Tape0:rewinding
scanner: error, fsf 2: unknown error 23 <0x17>
scanner: fn 2 rn 0 read error unknown error 1165 <0x48d>
scanner: \\.\Tape0: opened for reading

Next, the process is hung, I have tested many with different tapes and all this giving the same error, I don't understand whats happen, I have reviewed that blocksize is correct, all this to 64k, in the legato parameters I have put to handler default and 64k but the result is the same.

Somebody has experienced the problem sometimes, Can you help me?.
I will have a small problem if I don,t get recover the data.

Thank you for advanced

It seems that either your drive or your tape is defective. This is actually reported by the "unknown error" which is nothing else but a SCSI return code.

However, to recover the media index, use "mmrecov".
