Hi all!

I'm not a OS/400 guy but I have some OS/400 questions. The customer wants

a TSM 5.1 (AIX) server and also a client for OS/400...

1. What version of TSM client do they need?

2. Do they need purchase BRMS, or is it free?

3. What PTF-level do they need on their OS/400?

4. Anything else?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Stefan

Hi,

I try to backup OS400 with tsm.

BRMS is an option of OS400. This option isn't free.

BRMS use ADSM API for OS400 to send data to TSM Server.

I used TSM 4.1 API for OS400. it is the same code of ADSM 3.1.

I arrived to backup and restore os400 object.

Warning, OS400 system use special concept of unique address. To make a system backup, it's necesary to down OS400 in restricted mode and under this mode no network run. With BRMS and TSM Api you only backup user data, no all data of your node.

One other TSM Api for OS400 exist, V4.2 but i nevers arrived to work with this level.

Best regard

There is a newer version of tsm out for OS/400:

Tivoli Storage Manager for OS/400 PASE 5.1

PASE is option 33 of OS/400 "OS/400 - Portable App Solutions Environment"

On the newer versions of OS/400 it is free. On the older versions it was $100. That measly charge wasn't worth the paperwork but they had to because of some external software licensing issues, (until they got that ironed out).

PASE allows you migrate unix applications to run in PASE quite easily.
