We have a number of servers which are not using the NAS features of our NetApp system, but instead just presenting out RAW LUNS via FC.

In order to do some off-server backups, can we still use the NDMP features just to create an *image* of the RAW LUNS?

I'm assuming an alternative to the above is to create snapshots and mount them on another TSM client and have that system backup direct to tape.

Appreciate any advice.

thanks!

Hi,

yes - it is possible. Both NDMP and NDMP/SnapMirrorToTape methods work.
The configuration is the same - from the NetApp point of view the LUN presented over block protocol (iSCSI/FC) is just a file like any other (it just have "LUN" flag).
