Multiple Image Backups

Hi people,

This is probably a real silly question.

We run an image backup on our document management system at the weekends that tapes around 17 hours to complete at the moment.

My question is, can I split the single image backup in to 2 or 3 image backups to run at the same time?

I get this feeling it cannot be done, but I thought I'd ask your expertise in case there is a way.

If it's a backup of a single disk (file system) I believe you can't run multiple threads.
But if you have more disks (file systems) to backup you can run the image backups in parallel.
