LTO1 and LTO2 compatibility

Hi



We have LTO1 drives ( 3584 ), IBM propose to put in LTO2 drives, and allow us to continue backing up to our existing LTO1 media.



My question is this... will these LTO1 cartridges, written on by LTO2 drives be recoverable on a robot which has LTO1 drives ( our disaster recovery site ) ??

Hi,



yes, if a LTO2 drive detects a LTO1-cartridge, it is written in LTO-1 format, so you can read it on a LTO-1 drive. But the full advantage of LTO-2 you will only get with LTO-2 cartridges, and then you cant read them in a LTO-1 drive.

Thanks for the reply.... I will with great trepidation go and restore this weekend at our DR site a backup taken on LTO2 drive.... :-o
