Hi,
using SolsticeBackup 7.2, Solaris 10 01/06, Autoloader LTO Ultrium 2, happens that after labelled a new Volume, it backups only some little data (ex. 15MB) and then it set the tape to FULL, even if tape is 200GB space.

Messages are like this:
Aug 29 22:17:10 Z0901RCOMP02 root: [ID 702911 daemon.notice] Sun StorEdge(TM) Enterprise Backup media: (notice) LTO Ultrium-2 tape OMCplus.003 used 15 MB of 200 GB capacity

Aug 29 22:17:17 Z0901RCOMP02 root: [ID 702911 daemon.notice] Sun StorEdge(TM) Enterprise Backup media: (info) verification of volume "OMCplus.003", volid 4292210621 succeeded.
Aug 29 22:17:17 Z0901RCOMP02 root: [ID 702911 daemon.notice] Sun StorEdge(TM) Enterprise Backup media: (info) Suggest manually labeling a new writable volume for pool 'OMCplus'

Seems something with the device/tape configuration, but I don't know.
PS: on some other same configurations, it's working fine.

Thanks,Paolo

Alsalam Alikom,
i guess you need reclaimation
use this command
reclaim stg stgpoolname th=40

Rep

medo334 is right. If you only have very tiny data on it, it will show maybe 99% Reclaimable Space.
TSM makes tape as Full/Filling/Pending.
When tape marked Full, it was filled up at some point ( not necessary 100% full). Data then start to expired, but status is still Full, until reclamation process complete move data out.

For the reclamation suggestions...... Does EMC Networker(Legato) have support for IBM TSM's reclamation ability?

For troubleshooting, does the tape write the same amount of data with a tar operation?

You can check the actlog as well for error messages relating to reclamation.

We ran into ANR1163W :

volume still contains files which could not be moved.

The volumes in some cases showed 0% utlized and full. We found a volume was corrupt that prevented tivoli from reclaming other volumes.

QUERY ACTLOG search=anr8950w begind=-2 gave us the volume that was having a problem.

moving what data we could and deleting the corrupt data freed up the reclamation process.

Again, this is a Networker question, NOT a TSM question and so looking for reclamation information in the actlog does absolutely nothing as there is no activity log to query and there is no reclamation.

tape block size

I have seen this sort of behaviour before - check the tape block size, and check what your scsi card is set to / can be set to.
