Hi,

I was searching for an answer which I did not get here in "Licensing" yet...

If I'd backup some of my machine from one box via cifs share, what license is needed? PVUs for all servers involved, or just the backup box and the TSM-Server?

It's because of weird licensing model for nehalem cpus in future, as our HP G6 models will have them by default with at least QCores... I really expect license explosion.

Licensing is done by installations. If there is only 1 client installed, only that client needs to be licensed.

so, backing up several servers via domain
\\server1\c$
\\server2\c$
\\server3\c$
...
from one machine, lets say server0, requires only the PVUs of server0?

An IBM technican was in doubt that this is true. In case of NAS devices it's ok, he said, but backing up windows server that way won't be allowed, without licenses

In that case, you're only installing the client on server0 and so only server0 is licensed. It isn't licensed by the filesystem or the drive letter, it is licensed by the server it is installed on.
