Hi all,
Think I posted on this some time back but need some more help:
We have a 3583 library utilising 60 slots. Almost all the time we are running at capacity and need to check out all offsite bound tapes before we can insert a scratch tape to create the daily db backup.
In order to free up slots I sometimes run a MOVE DATA command on onsite tapes that have less than 50% utilisation by moving data to disk storage pool and then migrating to another tape.
What I don't understand is that, on average, 20 of the onsite tapes are using only 60% or less of their capacity. Is there any way I can configure TSM to utilise more of the tape before it uses another, i.e. can we get more of the onsite tapes using closer to 100% of their space as opposed to 60%? If this is not possible does anyone know for reference how or why TSM manages data in this way?
Many thanks.
