We are finding extra tapes in our offsite location. We go to our offsite location three times a week. After pulling all of the tapes that are on our vault retrieve list we check our vault list of tapes against what is really in our offsite location. When we do this we find 1 to 3 tapes extra. We have checked and the extra tapes are our database backup tapes. Does anyone know how to get this to stop from happening or is this normal. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you have a scheduled delete volumehistory type=dbb script running.

If you have DRM then you do not need to delete database backup tape infomation.

Monkeh,

If you do not run the delete volumehistory type=dbb schedule script then how does TSM reclaim your database backups from the offsite location? Thanks for your help in this matter.

i think you miss using terms regarding tsm operations:

<TABLE BORDER=0 ALIGN=CENTER WIDTH=85%><TR><TD><font class="pn-sub">Quote:</font><HR></TD></TR><TR><TD><FONT class="pn-sub"><BLOCKQUOTE> how does TSM reclaim your database backups</BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE>

dbbackups are not reclaimed, there are delete from volhistory. and volume is required to be checkin as scratch.

as Monkeh said: DRM is taking care about volhistory and dbbackup.

there is good explanation about DRM in:

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Implementation Guide, Chapter 19. Disaster recovery manager
