Does the TSM backup client use DNS? We have a need to change the DNS name of one of our NIC in DNS to use the name servername-bkp. TSM uses this NIC/IP address for backups.

Will changing the name affect backups? I get mixed replies from IBM.

Some say its the name in the DSM.sys / OPT that matters and not DNS.

The Spectrum Protect Client doesn't do the name resolution, the OS does it. The client will try to connect with whatever is specified in the TCPSERVERADDRESS option in the option file. The client doesn't care if you put an IP, a hostname or an alias as long as the OS can resolve it.

So if the option file has: "TCPSERVERADDRESS qwerty.company.com" and ping qwerty.company.com can translate that name to the right IP address, then you should be good.
