We recently had to restore a AIX server using a sysback image and TSM. The operator 1st restore the sysback image then used TSM to bring it up to a Point In Time (current). When this was done some files that were deleted after the sysback image was taken got restored. When using TSm is there any way to have TSM point in time restore delete any file that got restored from the sysback image but were deleted after sysback and before the point on time TSM restore.

In the TSM client GUI does the "What to restore from local" Image plus incremental files and directories, "Delete inactive files from local check box remove previously deleted files?

How far time wise between the SYSBACK and the TSM backup? If the TSM backup was BEFORE the SYSBACK file, then the deleted files would have been restored.

If the TSM backup was made AFTER the files were deleted, then a restore WITHOUT the Inactive file option should NOT have restored the deleted files by default.

The TSM backup was after the sysback backup but the sysback backup was before the files were deleted. From what I found TSM does NOT delete files. If the files are there and don't exist on the TSM backup The files are ignored. Apparently TSM doen't delete files on restores them.

Depends on the policies set and when expiration runs. TSM does delete files if these were really deleted following policy rules and expiration runs.
