Hello all.

How do i configure tsm to backup to /dev/null?

I want to test the maximum achievable throughput taking into account all components except for the final storage devices.

If I do a dd test on the client I can read at around 150MBytes/sec from an iscsi lun.
I want to see what remains of this speed going through client, network and server components.

Any help appreciated,
Regards,
Hoyte Swager

Hi,

as far as I know this is not possible - TSM has to format every volume it uses or write a label on it (which is being checked when volume is mounted) - this is not possible with /dev/null redirection

Hello Harry.

Thank you for the quick response.
I am sorry to hear this is not possible but I understand your explanation about the writing of labels.
I will leave the thread open for now to see if someone else might have a suggestion.
