Cleaning Tape - Did I do it correctly?

I setup my cleaning tape in my TLS-8466. I put it in a slot then specified the slot in the configuration for both drive (Ultrium LTO3).

Do I need to do anything in TSM? I do not want to use TSM to clean tapes, I prefer using TLS-8466.

The library tracks what is in each slot, so TSM wont try to put something in the slot with the cleaning tape, right?

Will the library automatically clean a drive if the drive needs it (its cleaning indicator is on)?

I thought certain models of library and drives will do that.

You are right. The Library puts a reserve status on those slots. The rule is that the library sends TSM the information where the tapes are, and not TSM dictating to the library on which slots to put the tapes in.

if your drives support auto cleaning then you just update you drives to support cleaning frequency "asneeded" see here

you need to checking in your cleaning tapes and tell TSM how many times to use it
