Reference #: 1137681

Unable to Start Client Acceptor Daemon (CAD). ANS1977E in dsmerror.log

Solution

Problem

"Error starting schedule service: CadSchedName registry value is empty" "ANS1977E Dsmcad schedule invocation was unsuccessful - will try again" errors are seen in the dsmerror.log. User is unable to start the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (ITSM) CAD (dsmcad) service to control the ITSM Scheduler service and the ITSM Remote Client Agent.

Solution

This is assuming:

MANAGEDSERVICES WEBCLIENT SCHEDULE

is specified in the ITSM Client "dsm.opt" file and the setup wizard has been completed for both the web client and scheduler service.

Errors observed in dsmerror.log after an attempt to start the CAD is made:

"Error starting schedule service: CadSchedName registry value is empty"

"ANS1977E Dsmcad schedule invocation was unsuccessful - will try again"

One possible cause of the above errors is that there are two ITSM Client Acceptors configured: one to control the webclient and one to control the scheduler. This cannot be done when using the same dsm.opt file. If wanting to use the Client Acceptor to control the webclient and the scheduler for the same node (same dsm.opt file), then only one Client Acceptor can be used. The reason the message:

"Error starting schedule service: CadSchedName registry value is empty"

"ANS1977E Dsmcad schedule invocation was unsuccessful - will try again"

is observed is because ITSM is enumerating the registry key for the ITSM Client Acceptor service (which is used to control the webclient), but this is not the service that is configured for the ITSM Scheduler service.

To correct this, configure the scheduler service and remote client agent service to work with one ITSM client acceptor. It is suggested to remove both ITSM Client Acceptors, the ITSM Scheduler service, and the ITSM Remote Client Agent service, then setup the services in this order:

1. Install the ITSM Scheduler service to be controlled by the ITSM CAD.

2. Install the ITSM Remote Client Agent (webclient) to be controlled by the same ITSM CAD.

This should eliminate the errors seen with the empty cadschedname parameter.

Good Luck,

Sias :)
