I've been getting this sporadically. It blows the backup job off, but when I bounce the server and restart, everything seems to work. I have cleaned the drives, but still happpens

ANR8302E I/O error on drive DRIVE1 (MT2.0.0.3) (OP=READ,CC=422, KEY=03, ASC=80, ASCQ=01, SENSE=F0.00.03.00.00.00.50.16.00.00.00.80.01.00.00.00.87.05.AD.00.00.4f.d0.00.00.00.00., Description=An undertermined error has occurred).

has happened on 4 different drives. I have looked up the messages, but can't find the cc=422.

I can't decide if this is a software, or a hardware problem. Any help would be appreciated

That message is a hardware message from the tape drive saying there is an error. the OP=READ says it was performing a READ function.

Normally this is one of two things: bad media or bad/drity tape drive. Try to audit the tape in another drive and see if it creates errors as well. (bad tape) If you keep getting these on the same drive, you might want to have it serviced. If it appears to be really random (non-tape or drive specific) tryto clean the drives more often.
