We run our DB2 backups to TSM and have a storage pool assigned and a sequential access storage pool.

There is alot of free space in these volumes yet we get the above error once in awhile saying it doesn't have enough space.

We have noticed that during the DB2 backups that the % utilized for the volume increased steadily and then upon completion dropped considerably. This behaviour leads me to believe that during the backup TSM is over allocating space for the backup image. Is there a workaround for this?

We are using DB27.2 FP6 and TSM 5.1

thanks

please more info.

which volumes? the ones in the disk storage pool or the tape (sequential) storage pool?

The Estimated space for a tape is usually the tape capacity in compressed mode. When the tape actually, fills up, you will either see the real tape capacity. Sometimes, it will be bigger or lesser than the estimated value. For example our 9940B tape drives show up at 400 GB estimated. But after they fill up, some tapes are close to 800 GB while others are like 245 GB. This is because the tapes are 200 gb non-compressed and your compression ratio varies depending on the compressabilty of the data.

As for the error, you'd will need to paste some lines from your activity log right before and after this error for someone to help you out.
