Expire inventory hangs at the end

Hi,

I'm using Server Version 7, Release 1, Level 4.0
Sometimes the expire inventory hangs at the end. All systems are scanned.
Sometimes I can cancel the process, sometimes I've to restart the instance.

The command is just: Expire Inventory
Someone a suggestion?

Hangs are almost impossible to troubleshoot without deep analysis. Given you are only at 7.1.4.0, I'd recommend that you upgrade to 7.1.7.100 as it's possible it's a known problem with a fix already out there.

Also, is it really hung? Sometimes, we are not just patient enough and I'm as guilty of that as anybody else.

1. How long have you waited for it to finish before suspecting it was hung?
2. What happens if you don't cancel it? Will it stay there for days?
   
3. Is it really hung or just slow?
   
4. How big is your database?
5. What type of disks is that database on?
6. How many directory/LUNs do you have for the database?

Hi,

The expire inventory runs for more then 24 hours and checked all hosts after about 3 hours.
When it hangs, also most backups are failed. When I cancel it, it's still running after some hours.
The database is 200 GG, almost 50% filled and spread over 4 volumes on a DS3500 15K spindles using a SAN.

For now it is not possible to upgrade in a short time to 7.1.7.100

Given your DB is small, it should perform good on 15K disk over 4 LUNs, so I doubt it's performance related.

The help you will get here in a forum is pretty limited. Troubleshooting hangs usually requires tracing and in depth analysis.
