Basic question: What key services do I need to start for the operating system (UNIX/Linux) on master BEFORE starting PBX then the rest of NetBackup?
This morning I had to do a reboot of my NetBackup 7.1 master server which runs on RHEL 6.
Backups kicked off and were successfully running to our Quantum DXi dedupe unit and to our Quantum i6000 tape library. Also Vaulting kicked off later and was successfully reading from our Data Domain dedupe unit. I was also able to
traverse the NFS mount used for the storage unit from command line on the master.
However, it appeared that any backup that was using the storage unit (basic disk) from the master for the data domain was failing with status 213 Storage Unit not Available.
I reasoned it had to do with the boot and stopped NetBackup then stopped Veritas PBX then restarted the latter then the former. After that I was able to access the storage unit with no problem.
The fact it works after a manual bounce of NetBackup but not after the initial reboot of the entire server (which started NetBackup) leads me to believe there is a startup order issue. Since the storage units rely on NFS mounts and
these were clearly accessible is evidenced by the fact Vaulting was reading them and command line could traverse I’m thinking this might be the issue. It appears that PBX starts before NFS but the rest NetBackup starts after NFS. The oddity is that the
DXi also uses nfs for its storage unit and it was being backed up to successfully before and after the bounce.
