We are in the middle of transitioning from the old netbackup
professional to the new dlo option. We have found one major problem
that is causing us some issues and that may make us have to find a
different product . . . the issue is that with dlo, the laptop or
workstation has to be logged in before you can backup the machine. With
the old pro version we could schedule backups during the night as long
as the machine was on. This new dlo version needs a user to be logged
in before it can backup the machine. We have a lot of remote machines
so backing up the machines during the day, when users are logged in, is
not an option . . .

Veritas has the "Desktop and Laptop" option, which gives the
user's a GUI they can use to backup their clients to a media server.
I've used it previously w/ Backup Exec and its ok. For clients who 100%
had to backup their desktops on a schedule we still purchased full
client licenses.

You might also want to look into Microsoft's Data protection
Manager. I demo'd it a while ago at a Microsoft Training course and it
was pretty sweet. Might be cheaper for lots of desktops than NBU client
licenses or the DLO.

        Good luck!

        Hey All

        I am running Veritas 5.1mp4 with 1 windows master & 3 windows
media servers. I have been told by management to search out a way to
backup user laptops and desktops are there any suggestions or product
recommendations?

        Thanks

        David Turner
