I use tar to restore old NDMP backups.. I've moved all the NDMP
image files out of the db/images directory (the host changed from
auspex to SUN - so from NDMP to standard backups) - other sites
may not have to do this - I had to in order to do standard backup
restores for the same host. The images nor the tapes are under 
netbackup control - We have disabled NDMP completely at this site.
What I do is I go thru the images lists to find the file I want, 
check the fragment on the tape then I use mt to forward the tape to 
that fragment and use tar to extract. 
I've documented the procedure so anyone on my team can do a NDMP
restore if necessary - interested?
