Hi. Has anyone done a migration from solaris to linux for their
master and/or media servers?

We are at 4.5 FP6.

Per this ancient tech note http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/182963.htm

I currently suspect that this might just be a matter of installing
netbackup on the linux boxes, configure a working environment with our
tape library, copying over relevant config files, catalog files,
etc. and away we go. Does this sound reasonable?

I will not be renaming any machines - just replacing with linux.

But I wonder if this tech note is dated with respect to the binary
catalog in 4.X. If the binary catalog is platform independent, then
things should be ok. Does anyone here know if this is the case?

Otherwise I imagine I'll have to do a bpbackupdb/bprecover.

I suspect that migrations to/from windows are more tricky than between
unix-like boxen.

I'm thinking of upgrading to 5.1 first then migrating because 5.1
supports RedHat AS 3.0.

Veritas recommends that this only be performed by PS and won't provide
migration hints/tech notes of any kind. I think they forgot to remove
the above ancient tech note, though. ;-)

I intend on doing a test migration before the real thing. If anyone
has done this before, your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks
