There's a veritas technote on decomissioning a media server (which is what
you are doing I think).
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/230047.htm
I would set the new one up and then follow the decomission process to
switch everything over. This avoids messing with names etc. If the media
server name is moving to the new server then you only need to restore the
media database (see catalog restore docs).

Be careful with dns and cnames as Netbackup relies very heavily on reverse
lookups and you can get problems if you are not very careful.

Cheers
Ed

Subject: [Veritas-bu] media server name change

Sorry if there's repetition here, but I've searched the archives and
I've seen a bunch
of stuff, mostly associated with master servers, and I'm not sure my
question is answered,
and I want to make sure that I'm thoroughly prepared.

I'm preparing to do an upgrade this weekend where we have to move some
services
from our media server to new hardware, and the name has to travel with
the services.
My tape library has to remain attached to the old box, so I have to
change the
hostname of my media server. The software will all stay intact, just
the name will
change. I've seen another article mentioning that I just have to change
the name
in netbackup, and do a bpmedia -movedb for each piece of media. That seems
pretty straightforward. Is that all I need to do? Any other caveats?
Should I also
take the time to set up a dns cname so I don't have to do this again?

Or am I missing the ball completely?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
