It shouldn't be a problem.  I opened up the door of an L700 many times
without any problems.  You can even do it while backups are running.  If
the door is open when the library control server is trying to control
the robot, you might get some timeouts.  I'm not sure if the L700 queues
up or rejects robotic control commands when the door is open.
