Yes you would have to restore it to a filer, or another machine that has
ndmp protocol running.
Having said that, I have seen posts stating that you might be able to
use tar to read the ndmp tapes and restore to your netbackup server,
then copy the files to a windows machine, but I haven't actually tried
this. Restoring directly from the ndmp backup to a windows client is not
possible, though.

I'm fairly sure I know the answer to this question, but I need
confirmation.
We are running 3.4GA on a Solaris 2.6 master. We are backing up a
number of NetApp filers and we are being requested to do a restore of
a handful of files to a Windows 2000 server.
I'm pretty sure that an NDMP restore requires restoring to a filer,
but I need confirmation before I tell the customer that he's got to
make room on the filer for the restore.
