I'm in the same position as you with respect to having HP10.20 clients that
can't be upgraded to 11 just yet. I was intending to postpone my upgrade to
4.5 until I learned that NBU always supports client versions one rev behind the
master. So stick with 3.4 on your 10.20 clients and you'll be good to go until
5.x comes out.

Does anyone have any HP 10.20 clients under NBU 4.5 ? The documentation says
this is not supported, but it -seems- to work OK.
I just upgraded my NT 4.0- SP6A, NBU Datacenter Master and media servers to
Rel. 4.5, MP-3.
I have a few HP-UX Rel. 10.20 clients that cannot upgrade to Rel. 11 just yet.
There are no NB extensions etc. installed, just taking simple file backups
with no apparent problems.
