Yes it is definately possible ! We have sucessfully restored and merged a 
catalog from tape on to another server having its own catalog.

Though care needs to be taken about the conflicting hostids/media-ids ( valid 
if u are merging 2 catalogs).

I was always under the impression that you could only restore the Master Server 
catalogs to a server with the same host name.

After a conversation with a Veritas consultant recently, I might have been 
wrong making that assumption.

Does anyone know if it is possible to restore the catalogs, from the catalog 
backup tape, to a server with a different host name?
